Summer is a very hot season, but it is also a time of year where you have to relax, take a refreshing drink and enjoy the sun (always with sunscreen). For this reason, and following our last tasting of gins, we present two refreshing drinks that will make us spend the summer more enjoyable:
It is a gin-based cocktail, soda and lemon juice which was first written in 1876 by a bartender named Jerry Thomas. The story tells it is called Tom Collins because people touting the bars in the city, going through the streets asking people if they knew Tom Collins. Given the negative reactions of people, these men said they could find in the American bar near you.
- Ice cubes
- 2 oz gin
- 2 oz lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 slice of lemon (for garnish)
- 1 cherry (for garnish)
Mix the gin, lemon juice, sugar and ice in a blender or shaker. Then pour all mixed (up the ice) into a highball glass also called Tom Collins, fill with soda and garnish with lemon slice and cherry. It can be taken directly from the cup or with a straw.

The Gimlet is a simple drink gin or vodka based and sweetened lime juice. Sweetened lime juice is made with a portion of freshly squeezed lime juice, one portion of water and one part sugar (the portion size is to taste). In the U.S. and the UK is a variation of this drink, substituting lime juice sweetened with a product marketed in those countries called "Rose's Lime Juice".
- Ice cubes.
- 2 oz of gin.
- 1 3/4 oz sweetened lime juice.
- 1 slice of lime (for garnish)
Ice is mixed with gin and sweetened lime juice in a blender or shaker. Filter the contents into a cocktail glass and garnish with slice of lime.
