The Gewürztraminer is a grape, with a color between red and pink, that is special to make white wines and with the characteristic of being very sweet and aromatic.
Its history goes back to another variety called Traminer, which is identical to Savagnin Blanc, which is a special type of grape to make Vin Jaune (or French yellow wine). This strain was transferred to high and cold places where the grapes change from green to pink / red and also gain his extra-aromatic characteristic. This variety is called by different names like Savagnin Rose, Durbacher Clevner, Red Traminer, Aromatic Traminer, among others, but his name was initially in Germany Gewürztraminer.
This grape is delicate and rebellious, susceptible to changes in temperature and soil types, where their main needs are very hot and dry summers. This same heat, necessary for proper vinification, is what gives it its natural sweetness and aroma develops from late harvested grapes.
