The owner, Edmonde Loubat, refused to uproot the vineyard after the 1956 frosts, as many other great estates did. He patiently waited for the vineyard’s recovery, and eventually, the results proved him right. The third factor that explains Petrus’ success, alongside the vineyard and terroir, is the expert hand of Jean-Claude Berrouet, who vinified 40 vintages until his retirement in 2007. His son Olivier followed in his footsteps, maintaining the high standard of one of the world’s most iconic wines. Petrus is made 100% from Merlot grapes, planted on clay soil.
