Mont Rubí is a winery within the DO Penedès (Alt Penedès), located at the base of the old Cooperative building in the town of l’Avellà (dating back to the 18th century). With new ownership in the mid-80s of the last century, their wines gained fame through the work of recovering ancestral Catalan varieties, especially Sumoll. Black is a young wine made 100% from Garnacha Negra, partially vinified with carbonic maceration (whole grapes without destemming), and after fermentation, it remains in contact with its fine lees for a few weeks before bottling. The vineyard for this Garnacha was planted in 1975 on calcareous-clay soil.
