Le Pin is one of the most sought-after wines from Bordeaux and one of the most expensive in the world, despite not being classified within the Premier Crus and only appearing on the market with its first vintage in 1979. Since 1924, Château Le Pin was owned by the Laubie family. Its grapes were sold or blended to produce low-quality wines in Pomerol until 1978 when the Thienpont family purchased the property, which was only 2 hectares. Initially, the vineyards were meant to be part of Vieux Ch. Certan, though they were never vinified except for the Le Pin label. Ever since Robert Parker awarded it his highest score for the 1982 vintage, everything changed for a wine that, despite not being classified, surpassed many Premier Crus in Bordeaux. Made 100% from Merlot grapes, from 6 hectares of vineyard planted on clay, gravel, and sand soils, it ferments in stainless steel vats and is aged in new French oak barrels for 22 to 24 months.
