In 1990, Domaines Barons de Rothschild (DBR), owners of Lafite, acquired L’Évangile from the Ducasse family. The goal was to ensure continuity in the care and long-term preservation of the property, improve quality, and update the winery’s facilities and the vineyard’s sanitary condition. DBR’s influence had immediate results in a more refined selection for the first label and the creation of an entry-level label or Second Vin, Blason de L’Évangile. The full restoration took place starting with the 2002 vintage. L’Évangile is a wine made with 80% Merlot and complemented by Cabernet Franc, from a 16-hectare vineyard planted on sandy clay and gravel soils with a subsoil rich in iron. It ferments in cement vats and is aged in oak barrels for a minimum of 18 months.
