In 1990, Domaines Barons de Rothschild (DBR), owners of Lafite, acquired L’Évangile from the Ducasse family. The goal was to ensure continuity in care and longevity of the estate, improve quality, and update the winery’s facilities and the vineyard’s health. DBR’s influence had immediate results with a more refined selection for the first label and the creation of an entry-level label or Second Vin, Blason de L’Évangile. The full restoration took place starting with the 2002 vintage. L’Évangile is a wine made with 80% Merlot and complemented by Cabernet Franc, from a 16-hectare vineyard planted on sandy clay and gravel with an iron-rich subsoil. It ferments in cement vats and ages in oak barrels for a minimum of 18 months.
