Petrus wines deserve all the accolades they receive and hold one of the top positions among the world’s legendary brands. These are unique wines, marked by concentration and elegance, balance and depth. An exceptional personality, partly due to the nature of the terroir in its vineyards, with soil and climate in which Merlot expresses its full breadth. The owner, Edmonde Loubat, refused to uproot the vineyard after the 1956 frosts, as other great estates did. He patiently waited for the vineyard’s recovery, and eventually, the results proved him right. The third factor that explains Petrus’ success, along with the vineyard and terroir, is the expert hand of Jean-Claude Berrouet, who vinified 40 vintages until his retirement in 2007. His son Olivier followed in his footsteps, maintaining the high standard of one of the world’s most iconic wines. Petrus is made 100% from Merlot grapes, planted in clay soil. It ferments in cement vats and ages in new French oak barrels for 22 to 28 months.
